Camping at Kenilworth

We have just spent 4 nights camping at beautiful, green Kenilworth, about 40 minutes drive inland from Maleny. We camped in the grounds of the Kenilworth Hall, so had access to toilets and showers and it is dog friendly so we could have the poodle with us.

With Simon's food intollerances, we had to cook everything from scratch and not use anything tinned or processed. As we had access to the butcher and grocer in the township, we were able to buy fresh groceries as we needed them. I took lots of cooking equipment, herbs from our garden at home and I typed up a few pages of recipes that I knew would work whilst camping. The photo above is the pantry.
Simon looks out towards the Mary River.
Sitting down to Thai basil chicken with stir fried vegetables and rice.
My kitchen! We set up camp beside a little shed so we were able to use its bench as an area for our gas cookers.
We had happy hour each afternoon before dinner, I made avocado dip, tomato salsa and cucumber tzatziki. For beverages, the best one was a pile of freshly squeezed oranges, a squeezed lemon, with half a pineapple that I juiced by pushing it through a colander. I sugared the rims of our glasses and we drank our fresh fruit cocktails whilst eating these dips.
The township of Kenilworth was built in the 1920s, so has a lovely vintage feel.

  1. Hello Belinda, Your post made me want to go camping. It's been a long time since I did so. We always took so much of our kitchen, never one to be satisfied with typical camping fare.

Just found your comment on my blog of several months ago. A belated welcome to my blog.

I'm 63 yrs old, have 3 grown children, 3 grandchildren and currently have 3 homes. 3 homes because of my husband's recent transfer and the depressed real estate market here in the U.S.

  2. Hello Barbara, thank you so much for your encouraging comment. Please tell me your blog address so I can return there. I am guessing it would have been food blog as I can see that food is important to both of us!
    Cheers

  3. Not a food blog, sorry. Just ramblings about whatever I think of that particular day. Mostly about that I live in 3 different places; Chattanooga TN where my husband's firm is renting a house for us. Big Canoe, Georgia (north of Atlanta). That house has been for sale for a very long time. And Driggs, Idaho where we have a vacation house and I spend all summer.

Your inn/bed & breakfast is lovely.
